Autumn 2020 Update

Autumn 2020 Update

What have I wrought?! So, I am currently working on Day 18 in the storyline. I have also completed all but three of the animations for the first 18 days. Two of them are getting their final renders and I’ll start the final animation when

Summer 2020 Update (Animation)

Welcome once again to Professor Amethyst’s blog. I know that all of the people reading this (read: no one at all) are awaiting news for “On Distant Shores”. Well wonder no more. After seeing a lot of the new visual novels coming out, it appears

Spring 2020 Update

Spring 2020 Update

Well, it’s been five months since I’ve last posted an update. A little honesty time. I’m stuck in a creative loop. For progress with the game, this is wonderful. For progress in finding the courage to put it out there, it’s less than ideal. In spite of continually going back and re-rendering images and tweaking the dialogue, I am also making incredible forward progress. The creation process has been very rewarding and in these strange times I’m happy I have this creative outlet. Not to mention my scripting skills continue to dramatically improve.

On the other hand, I feel that in spite of the many months and huge personal investment that there really won’t be any market for my effort. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not walking away from my creation. I’m just fairly convinced it will not be received well. I probably shouldn’t share my fears like this online. I should be highly positive and trying to stir up excitement in my game. However, I’m also keenly aware that no one is going to ever read the drivel I throw out on this site. So, it’s a relatively safe place to admit that I know this will not be a successful endeavor. The good news, is once I do put it out there and get critically panned I will learn and grow and hopefully my next effort will be all the better for it.

Here’s a quick render I did recently just for fun.

New Year, New Update

New Year, New Update

Decision Time

On Distant Shores is continuing to grow at a healthy rate. I’m pleased with the recent progress I have made. At this point I need to decide if I want to release the first 10 days of the game into the wild. My intention has

You might think that this project isn’t doing much, but I assure you that I’ve been making great progress. I’d like to introduce some of the people you will get to know on your journey. We’re seeing Amy and her book in the first image.
